Gerhard Eggers was married from 1939 to Hildegard Eggers, née Koch (d. 1978). The marriage produced three children:
- Karsten Eggers (b. 20 December 1940)
- Birgit Eggers (b. 20 December 1943)
- Heidrun Eggers (b. 28 February 1945)
Children and grandchildren

Karsten Eggers worked for many years as a grammar-school teacher in Bremen and is the author of his father’s biography. He was married to Monika Lindemann; the marriage produced two sons, Stephan and Ralf Eggers.
Birgit Eggers studied mathematics and physics (Dipl.-Physikerin) and later worked as a mathematics and physics teacher in Munich. In 1973 she married Hans Reinhold Lothar Stange. The marriage produced two children: Kristina Anne Sabine Stange (b. 1973) and Bernhard Philipp Martin Stange (b. 23 June 1976 in Munich).
Kristina Anne Sabine Stange studied psychology at the University of Potsdam. She worked among others at Bruhlgut and is engaged in human health and performance risk qualification. She contributes to the ethics of Eudippa, which cooperates with DocSWISS in the fields of space and aviation – an area that touches on her grandfather’s life’s work.
Heidrun Eggers was born in Gernrode and later lived in Kriftel. She had three children: Cornelia Nadine Müller (b. 1966), Sylvie Müller (b. 1967) and Marc Oliver Müller (b. 1977).
Homes
During the French years the family lived in Decize and Dammarie-les-Lys, after the return to Germany in Bremen (Schwachhauser Ring 41) and from the 1970s in Bad Zwischenahn.
Private life

Eggers maintained close ties with his family and travelled extensively, including holidays on the Côte d’Azur and in the Alps. In the French years, excursions to Melun, the forest of Fontainebleau, Paris and Versailles were part of family life. He remained devoted to sailing and rowing throughout his life; as a student he had already earned his pilot’s licence.
Family memories
His son Karsten describes many personal memories of family life in his biography. His granddaughter Kristina also treasures warm memories of conversations and visits with her grandfather in the last years of his life. These personal stories show Gerhard Eggers not only as an engineer and manager, but also as a devoted and warm-hearted grandfather.
